Cherussery Temple

This temple is located in a small village called Cherussery (not the place of the famous Cherussery Namboodiri)about 10km south of Trichur Town.

The main temple has two sanctum sanctorams(SREEKOVILS); one for Lord Narasimhamurthy and the other for Lord Vamanamurthy. There are many temples dedicated to Lord Narasimhamurthy and lord Vamanamurthy separatewly in various other places. But I think that the Ceherussery temple has the unique distinction of having both Narasihamurthi and Vamanamurthy as the principal deities.

Lord Narasimhamurty is believed to be in his "Raudra Bhaavam" or angry mood. Lord Vaamanamurthy is also known as "Santhanagopalamurthy".Then there are Lord Ganesha inside the main temple, Lord Ayyappa in another smaller temple just near the main temple and devi in two different moods of "Dhyanam".

The temple is said to be more than one thousand years old, may be close to 2000years.

The temple is under renovation at present. There had been no repair or proper maintenance carried out at the temple during the last 50 years I can remember, due to paucity of funds and stark apathy of the Devswam board. The previous owners of the temple have also been rendered poor due to the Land Reforms of the 1950's. Now some of the enterprising devotees have teken the initiative of the mammoth job of renovation of the temple. Their efforts need the support and liberal contributions from all of you.
